Scholarship Opportunities
L. Diane Bernard Fund for LGBT and Human Sexuality Projects
This fund allows us to consider MSS and PhD Student applications for stipend awards. As described by the creator of this fund, the fund allows us to provide stipends for one or more students whose fieldwork or dissertation work is primarily focused in the area of sexual and gender development issues. As well, students may receive the stipend more than once and special consideration may be given to students whose work is especially engaging in the area of womens issues.
If you are an MSS student and would like to be considered for this award, I ask that you write an essay describing how your field placement has enhanced your knowledge and skills in one or more of the areas described above.
If you are a PhD student and would like to be considered for this award, please submit an essay that addresses the relevance of your research to social work practice in the content areas described above.
All essays should be 2-4 pages in length. Please submit this essay (no more than 4 pages) to our Assistant Dean, Dr. Michelle Talbert-Horsey, by Friday, February 21, 2025.
The amount of the stipend awards may vary and will not exceed $1500.00. All applications received by February 21st will be reviewed and we will select recipients for this years awards. All submitted essays will be reviewed by Dr. Michelle Talbert-Horsey, Assistant Dean for Administration, Marcy Nyachogo, Director of Student and Career Services, and Janet Shapiro, Dean of the GSSWSR.
Become a Named Scholar at the GSSWSR
A large portion of the GSSWSR's institutional financial aid funding (our "discount rate") comes from scholarships established by alumnae/i, friends, parents, corporations, and foundations. You may be eligible to become a Named Scholar at the GSSWSR based on specific criteria, as specified by the donors, such as home state/region, course of study, and special areas of interest. In order to be considered, we need to gather information that will help us connect students to particular opportunities to become a Named Scholar.
This is not an opportunity for increased funding, but being a Named Scholar bolsters students' resumes, and also helps us to provide donors with information about how students are benefitting from donor philanthropic giving.
Please visit to apply. The Named Scholar Application is due February 14th, 2025.
