ELIZABETH ASKEY ’87
Elizabeth Askey ’87 was named Chief of the IRS Independent Office of Appeals in September 2024. Askey will set strategy and oversee the operations of the office, which resolves tax controversies between taxpayers and the IRS without litigation. Prior to joining the IRS in 2019, she spent 30 years as a tax controversy and policy practitioner at several law and accounting firms and in private industry.

FAITH CHUNG ’14
Faith Chung ’14, director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Sidley, was reappointed to the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Council for Diversity in the Educational Pipeline and selected as the 2024-2025 chair of the Communications and Recognition Committee. As chair, she leads the selection process for the ABA’s Alexander Awards.

ABIGAIL FIREY ’78
Abigail Firey ’78 was selected as part of the inaugural class of Lewis Honors College Faculty Fellows at the University of Kentucky, where she is a history professor specializing in early medieval Europe. The program celebrates excellence in teaching and positions the fellows as ambassadors of the culture and community at the College.

MICHELLE GYLES-MCDONNOUGH ’90
Michelle Gyles-McDonnough ’90 was appointed executive director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research. Gyles-McDonnough has held multiple leadership roles within the United Nations and has more than 30 years of experience in sustainable development, policy advocacy, international trade, international relations, and change management.

JANE NEWBURGER ’71
Jane Newburger ’71 earned double honors at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in November 2024.
In addition to receiving a Distinguished Scientist Award, Newburger was the 2024 recipient of the Eugene Braunwald Academic Mentorship Award for teaching and mentoring the next generation of faculty researchers, educators, and health care professionals.

Sarah Nosal ’00
Sarah Nosal ’00 was elected by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) to serve as president-elect, president, and board chair 2024–2027. The AAFP represents 130,000 physicians and students—the nation's largest primary care advocacy body. Nosal is vice president for innovation and optimization and chief medical information officer at the Institute for Family Health in Bronx, N.Y.

BRIELLE STARK ’12
Brielle Stark ’12, an associate professor in the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Department and the Program for Neuroscience at Indiana University, was awarded a Fulbright Research Award to conduct research on using virtual reality for facilitating speech and language post-stroke at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia, beginning in spring 2025.

DANNY TANG ’07
Danny Tang ’07 was named the new CEO of Hero Esports, the largest esports company in Asia, following eight years as CFO. Tang drove growth across all aspects of the business, including raising $1 billion in funding, expanding the business into new markets, and securing strategic partnerships.

ARIELLE WINNIK, Ph.D. ’22
Arielle Winnik, Ph.D. ’22 was named the inaugural Donna Torrance Assistant Curator of Indo-Pacific Art at the Yale University Art Gallery. Winnik was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Indo-Pacific Art and specializes in textiles.
